Recipients must pursue degrees in healthcare, education, youth development, liberal and performing arts or STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).

SHOOTING STAR AWARDS JUDGE SELECTION COMMITTEE – October 2015 – December 2015

One of six individuals charged with brainstorming and recruiting individuals to adjudicate the 2016 Shooting Star Recognition, Scholarship & Awards program. The program recognizes artistic excellence among Johnson County high school students in nine visual and performing arts categories.

KANSAS CITY VICTORY LEADERSHIP SUMMIT – October 2015
Inaugural Trainee Class

The day-long intensive Kansas City Victory Leadership Summit helped lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered leaders develop the skills needed to take next steps in public service. Topics included political campaigns and running for office, messaging and organizing, serving on boards and commissions, and obtaining public service appointments on the local, state, and federal levels.

Allocated funds to departments and organizations to support cross-cultural activities and lectures in order to promote global experiences for students. Budget of $200,000 per academic year.

Ensured the continued safety of campus community by implementing strategic plans and services that promoted safety awareness education, addressed community safety concerns, and reduced violent crime activities. Approved $50,000 safe pathway to KU installation.

Examined and contributed to innovative public/nonprofit partnerships that address food insecurity, homelessness, and poverty in an urban setting. Programs included Marra Farm,Project Sack Lunch, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. IMPACT: Seattle is a People to People International service learning program.

AIDS SERVICE FOUNDATION OF GREATER KANSAS CITY – Dec. 2012 – Feb. 2013
Steering committee for Val-O-Ween, a fundraising event to benefit the AIDS Service Foundation of Greater Kansas City. Team gathered and presented up-to-date statistics on HIV/AIDS, information on HIV/AIDS prevention, safe sex practices, and arranged to have a local organization provide free screening for HIV/AIDS.

Lead Home Depot volunteer group in home improvement projects at U.S. veteran’s home.

VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE (VITA) – January 2012
Canvased local communities to inform residents about the Volunteer Income Tax Program. VITA provides free tax preparation services to disadvantaged individuals and families.

DAY FOR DOWNTOWN, 12th ANNUAL – November 2011
Assisted with planning and site management of Day for Downtown cleanup site. Engaged by removing trash, graffiti, and overgrown vegetation. Day for Downtown is an annual, citywide community cleanup and improvement event.

Created and organized percentage day fundraiser at Five Guys restaurant to benefit the Douglas County Dental Clinic. The clinic’s staff provides free and reduced-cost dental services to disadvantaged individuals. Resulted in $1,000 to benefit clinic.

KU DANCE MARATHON – January 2010-March 2010; November 2010-February 2011
Raised funds to support treatment of severely ill children at University of Kansas Medical Center Pediatrics Department and to help reduce their family’s financial hardships.

Assisted with development of educational programming, staff leadership manuals, and risk management procedures. Cleaned facility. Engaged in environmental education program. Assisted with general park maintenance and camp program facilitation. Learned about poverty-induced challenges to living healthily. Week long service-learning trip.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY RESTORE – March 2010
Cleaned and reorganized the storage facilities. Assisted with delivery and pick-up of building materials and appliances.

JUBILEE CAFÉ – February 2010
Prepared and served hot breakfast to disadvantaged city residents. Created signage and arranged space for Jubilee Café benefit event.
